The PhO2TO Research Group is a multidisciplinary research group from the Department of Physical and Inorganic Chemistry (DQFI) of the Faculty of Chemistry (FQ) at URV. It specializes in the synthesis and characterization of new nanomaterials to enable in-situ, contactless sensing of temperature, pH, and O₂ concentration, among other parameters, based on their optical properties.

Members of the research group have extensive experience in materials science, covering the entire process: from material design and fabrication, through crystallographic, chemical, and physical characterization, to their final applications.

Potential application areas for the nanosensors under development include internal monitoring of crop productivity, wine production control, and catalysis processes, among others.

  • Current main lines (2026):
    • Synthesis of Carbon dots from biomass to be used as multifunctional luminescent sensors.
    • In-situ Analysis of microplastics in different environment: Liquid, gas.
